Huawei EV Stelato S9 opens pre-sales

Today the Stelato S9 opened pre-sales at a ceremony in Beijing. The large sedan jointly produced by Huawei and BAIC is available for pre-orders priced between 450,000 and 550,000 yuan (57,250 – 75,950 USD). Official sales of the car will begin in August with deliveries to follow.

Khodrocar - The car is designed to compete with German premium cars like the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-class but it is fully electric. According to today’s press conference the car is built on the Turing platform and uses the Turing chassis system. Additionally the S9 will be the first car to use the Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 intelligent driving system and will use the HarmonyOS system.

Together with the M9 it forms a “9 series double flagship” and takes aim at the luxury market. Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei Car Business Unit, claims that usable space in the cabin is as much as 3460 mm. The S9 adopts Inside-Out design which integrates the inside and outside helping maximize cabin space. Pictures show a large fold down armrest for the rear bench turning the S9 into a four seater. Visible in the picture are seat buttons integrated into the door panels. A door behind the fold-down armrest most probably is for an onboard fridge, and there are most likely entertainment screens for rear passengers. Dimensions for the car are 5160, 1987 and 1486 mm (l/w/h) and the wheelbase is 3050 mm.

Yu claims that the new car has the lowest wind resistance among executive luxury sedans and that the figure would be announced at the launch event in August. In the meantime, we know the S9 features streaming side view cameras instead of mirrors.

The car comes in both single and dual motor versions. All use a 227 kW TZ210XYA03 electric motor produced by Huawei Digital Power Technology Co., Ltd., on the rear axle. Dual motor versions add a YS210XYA03 motor also from Huawei to the front axle, this motor is rated at 158 kW. There is still no news on battery capacities but the maximum range is over 800 km, presumably for the single motor version.

A key selling point of the car will be Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 system and it’s believed the system will debut on the Stelato S9. The system makes the switch from BEV (bird’s eye view) to a GOD ( general obstacle detection) network which allows it to truly understand obstacles and scenarios like a human. The Stelato S9 uses Lidar and the all-weather and small target detection capabilities have been upgraded and it works much better with data-x-items like tires, warning triangles and traffic cones.

Huawei has developed the first high-precision 4D millimeter wavelength radar in China and this allow better vision range (up 35%) and greater accuracy (4 times) along with faster response. This has been possible thanks to 4T4R waveguide antennas and ultra-wideband to improve both target detection and environmental modeling capabilities.
